Police officers save kittens trapped beneath a vehicle and are rewarded with hugs

Firefighters are usually the ones known for “saving kittens from trees,” but sometimes it’s the boys in blue who actually rescue cats in need.

That was the case for two police officers who were sent out to save two kittens trapped beneath a car — and the grateful little cats thanked them in an adorable way.

According to a Facebook post from the Arlington Police Department, Officers Adkins and Hilliard had been dispatched to a local TJ Maxx, and then a manager asked them for help with another situation.

They were informed that two kittens were trapped underneath the back of a car in the parking lot. While the kittens were unrelated to their original dispatch call, the officers decided to help out.

“They located the kittens inside the bumper where most likely the mother cat had placed them for some reason,” Jesse Minton of the Arlington Police Department told The Dodo. “The owner of the car advised she did not own a cat and had no idea how the kittens got in there.”

Thankfully the officers were soon able to locate the kitten, and Officer Adkins got underneath the vehicle to remove the kittens safely.

While the kittens were confused and frightened, they were thankfully in good condition.

The officers took the tiny 6-week-old kittens into their patrol vehicle, and took them to the vet for examination. The officers held the kittens to make them feel safe and loved, and fed them formula from bottles.

The kittens soon warmed up to the officers in a big way — and showed their gratitude by cuddling up on their shoulders.

And thankfully, the story has a very happy ending: Officer Minto told The Dodo that Officer Adkins decided to adopt the two kittens himself!

He was reportedly thinking of naming them “TJ and “Max,” after the store where they were found.

Thank you to these officers for saving these cats, and thank you to Officer Adkins for giving them a home!
